DVD Synopsis

In this romantic comedy-drama, two people whose lives were touched by the same tragedy find love. Buddy Amaral (Ben Affleck) is a successful L.A. advertising executive who has a way with the ladies, but inside he longs for a meaningful long-term relationship. One day Buddy sells his seat on a sold-out airline flight to a stranger; he's shocked when the jet crashes and the man is killed. A year later, still haunted by the incident, Buddy looks up Abby Janello (Gwyneth Paltrow), the victim's widow, who is now selling real estate to support her children. Buddy soon finds himself attracted to Abby, and the feeling is mutual, but while he's interested in marriage, he isn't sure how (or if) he should tell her that he was indirectly responsible for her husband's death. Bounce was written and directed by Don Roos, who made a splash with his independent debut The Opposite of Sex; supporting Affleck and Paltrow are Natasha Henstridge, Jennifer Grey, David Paymer, and Joe Morton. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Editorial Review of DVD

Miramax's double-disc DVD set for Bounce illustrates that it's not only blockbusters or classic films that can benefit from an in-depth DVD approach. The Ben Affleck/Gwyneth Paltrow romance did reasonably well at the box office, but not spectacularly. Nevertheless, by issuing this two-disc, feature-filled DVD of the movie, Miramax is likely trying to build a home audience by enhancing the viewing experience. Disk one contains the film in a widescreen format with a 1.85:1 aspect ratio that is enhanced for 16x9 TV's, as well as a soundtrack in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound. It also has a jocular commentary by Director Don Roos and Co-Producer Bobby Cohen. The second disk contains the bulk of the special features. These include deleted scenes with optional commentary, a gag reel, a feature called "All About Bounce" that is more about Affleck and Paltrow than the film, and a unique feature that has the two stars backstage chatting with film crew members. But that's not all. Disc two also has the "Need to Be Next to You" music video, and several selected film scenes with commentary by Roos, Affleck and Paltrow. ~ Russell Roberts, All Movie Guide

The disc of bonus material is fun. Gwyneth and Ben go behind the scenes on the set to interview various people who make the production possible.
