This Italian crime melodrama was originally released as Citta Violenta. Charles Bronson stars as Jeff, an ex-convict living in New Orleans. Understandably, Jeff trusts no one but his curvaceous girl friend Vanessa (Jill Ireland). She is stolen away from him by Weber (Telly Savalas), the man who framed him on a murder charge. Charles Bronson and Telly Savalas star in the action thriller Violent City from acclaimed director Sergio Sollima. Anchor Bay has done a great job on this 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer. Sporting solid color patterns and vivd black levels, this widescreen transfer is nearly flawless save for a few minor instances of dirt and edge enhancement. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono in English, French, and Italian. While this is hardly an impressive soundtrack, the flat 2.0 Mono mix works well within the confines of the film. Also included on this disc are subtitles in English. Extra features include an insightful 15-minute interview with director Sergio Sollima (who seems to be very high on himself), a fun theatrical trailer, a poster/stills gallery, and a cast and crew page filled with information. Fans of this film will be pleased to see that Anchor Bay has taken the time to produce a very nice edition of it on DVD. ~ Patrick Naugle, All Movie Guide
