Before there was
Scream there was the self-referencing horror movie
Popcorn. Elite Entertainment presents
Popcorn in anamorphic 1.85:1 widescreen and the results are less than impressive. The image for =Popcorn is very drab, with much of the picture looking dark and grainy. Aside from the widescreen aspect ratio, this transfer looks as if it came straight from VHS. Colors are often dark, with black levels looking slightly gray. For a film that is not especially old, more was certainly expected out of this transfer. Audio is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0 and sounds only slightly more impressive than the video portions of this disc. Dialogue, music, and effects are all clean and clear, with only slight distortion present. No subtitles are included on this disc. =Popcorn's bag is only half full when it comes to extra features. Included on this disc are seven TV promotional spots, as well as a single promotional theatrical trailer. Fans of
Popcorn may feel the need to pick up this DVD, but be forewarned that while you may enjoy the movie, this disc leaves much to be desired. ~ Patrick Naugle, All Movie Guide
