DVD Synopsis

In this loose reinvention of the classic Bram Stoker novel, the Count (Gerard Butler) is transplanted to the present day, after a brief prologue where Van Helsing (Christopher Plummer) captures Dracula and conceals him in Carfax Abbey, where he remains for many years. In the future, Carfax Abbey is contained within an office building where Van Helsing's been using Dracula's blood to stay alive in order to guard the evil secret. After a band of thieves, led by the malevolent Marcus (Omar Epps), attempts to seize Dracula's remains, the Count escapes to New Orleans, where Mary Van Helsing (Justine Waddell) currently resides. Mary is eventually persuaded to fight Dracula with the aid of a reluctant Simon(Jonny Lee Miller), one of Van Helsing's employees, all while trying to escape the newly-made vampires of Marcus' gang and a zealous TV reporter (Jeri Ryan). The film also features Lochlyn Munro, Jennifer Esposito, Vitamin C, and Danny Masterson in supporting roles.

Editorial Review of DVD

Patrick Lussier's update of the vampire legend Dracula 2000 comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. An English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, while a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Stereo. Spanish subtitles are accessible. The extensive supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by both the director and the screenwriter (Joel Soisson), deleted scenes and extended scenes (both with commentary from the director and screenwriter), storyboards, behind-the-scenes footage, audition tapes of the cast members, and the theatrical trailer. This is an excellent release that delivers a solid presentation of the film as well as informative and entertaining extras. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide

This is such a fun and bloody movie. All horror should be so good.

Modern spin on the Dracula tale in which Van Helsing has survived by giving himself injections of Dracula's blood. When theives unintentionally release the Count, Van Helsing is called into action. Gerard Butler smolders as the sexiest Dracula I've ever seen on film. The scene of him making out with a girl and they end up floating off the bed - so hot! Hey Gerard, my neck is available!

I'm not really a horror fan but I am a Gerry Butler fan and so I had to watch this film. I liked the different take on the origin of Dracula, that was definitely a surprise.
