DVD Synopsis

This low-budget cult classic horror spoof has one of the great movie titles of all time. Mike (Grant Cramer) and his sweetheart, Debbie (Suzanne Snyder), are smooching on lover's lane when they see what appears to be a meteorite crashing over the horizon. They loosen their liplock long enough to investigate and find a curious circus tent. There they discover malevolent clowns who stop their victims with popcorn-shooting guns and acid-drenched pies in order to feast on human blood. The unfortunates are then entombed into inescapable cotton-candy cocoons. Officer Dave Hanson (John Allen Nelson) is called to investigate with help from Officer Mooney (John Vernon). This underground hit from the '80s comes to DVD in a widescreen anamorphic picture format (with a theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1) and a single audio track, English Dolby 2.0, with Spanish and French subtitles and closed-captioning available. Special or bonus features include a bit of behind-the-scenes footage, a director-narrated audio commentary, a visual effects commentary, some information on the film's score, a short featurette on the formation and fleshing out of the character concepts, and a photo gallery of stills. While the picture quality is of about a VHS level of detail and coloring, the sound quality is strictly mono and barely adequate, just as it was in the film's original theatrical release. ~ Craig Chalquist, All Movie Guide

Ah, the 80's...never has a decade inspired so much coulrophobia. 'It', the novel by Stephen King, and this cinematic gem both instilled a healthy fear of clowns in my generation. I guess it was inevitable after John Wayne Gacy in the 70's.
Killer Klowns from Outer Space is a classic and fun example of how to do cheeky scifi. Perhaps it was this movie that set us on the path which would eventually lead to Slither, the slap to the spine cheesey scifi needed to make it more palatable. This is a movie that is not afraid to be bad, and in the end that is what makes it great--and completely out of stock at every college movie store in the nation. I eventually broke down and bought it, then had to re-buy when my husband wore it out!

Wild alien invasion story played straight, with sinister creatures invading a small town in the form of nightmarish clowns armed with an array of weapons that resemble classic clown props. They land in their Big Top UFO and start seeking victims. Wait'll you see what they do with cotton candy. Gives lip service to Earth clowns being inspired by repressed memories of alien clown creatures. Bizarre, internally consistent, ernest cast, lots of fun.
