DVD Synopsis

Set against the anti-war protests, rock & roll revolution, and mind-expanding psychedelia of the 1960s, Julie Taymor's hallucinogenic musical follows the arduous journey of star-crossed lovers Jude (Jim Sturgess) and Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood) as they and a small group of musicians are swept up in the raging waters of the volatile counterculture movement. Guided through their journey by a pair known only as Dr. Robert (Bono) and Mr. Kite (Eddie Izzard), Jude and Lucy are eventually forced to find their way back to one another after being split apart by powerful forces beyond their control. The music in the film consists exclusively of songs made popular by the Beatles during the time period depicted in the movie. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

I loved long moments of this film. They're are a few scenes that don't seem to quite flow, but I realize they're working with pre-set musiic. Great voices, great re-master of some of my favorite Beatle's songs. Fun to watch!

Breathtakingly beautiful interpretation of 1960's America through the music of The Beatles. A masterpiece. Too much to rave about, but some things that stand out are the gorgeous pyschedelic colors and OF COURSE the outstanding way the lyrics and the script "come together" (sorry, couldn't help it). LOVED Bono, Salma Hayek and Eddie Izzard in their cameos. One question -- did the stars actually sing their parts? If so, wow. If you appreciate theater, The Beatles, or lived through the 1960's, you should see this film. I am ordering the soundtrack today!

The two main actors really carry this film for me, although there are some strong moments from the supporting cast as well. Who knew Evan Rachel Wood had such an amazing voice to go with an amazing acting talent?
Beautiful use of Beatles music to push the story forward. I tend to be a purist where Beatles music is concerned, but this movie does the music justice. I also loved the cameos - particularly Joe Cocker and Bono.
Worth seeing, even if you're not a Beatles fan! For the fan, there are plenty of references to chuckle over.

Personally one of my favorite movies of all time. This movie combines great music with new and upcoming actors who have real talent, and that makes this movie stand out. Bono from U2 makes an appearance, as does Eddie Izzard. The singing is fantastic, the story plays out in a way that no other movie could even hope to, and the visual effects are phenomenal. Can't go wrong with this one.

A very fun, totally psychadelic experience not to be missed! There is no guarantee you will like this movie - in fact, I wasn't too fond of it after my first viewing. I have since watched it a few more times and come to really like it! Director Julie Taymore takes you on a musical experience like no other with this film of star-crossed lovers living in the turmoil of the 1960s. The best part? All the songs are from the Beatles!

This movie is one of my all time favourites. One would think of re-doing Beatles songs as a sacrelige, but they were actually beautiful and wonderfully done. The movie gets a bit trippy at times, but when it comes down to it, it's all about one thing that everyone can understand: All You Need Is Love.
