DVD Synopsis

Key scenes from films as varied in period, tone, and critical stature as Psycho, The Ugly, Leprechaun, and I Know What You Did Last Summer are interspersed with factoids about the famous characters they portray in this interactive DVD, which was also released as a more traditional VHS documentary. Splashy, CD-ROM style graphics introduce clips from the aforementioned films plus Jason Goes to Hell, Hellraiser, Wishmaster, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Child's Play 2, Candyman, Scream, The Guardian, The Dentist, Phantasm, Puppet Master, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Halloween. The emphasis, however, is not on the films themselves, but on the "boogeymen" they unleashed on the collective pop culture consciousness, such as Pinhead, Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, Chucky, Blade, Norman Bates, Jason Vorhees, and Michael Myers. Boogeymen eschews traditional narration and documentary technique, focusing instead on quick, bullet-point snippets about the characters and their preferred methods of maiming, torturing, and killing. The DVD version, however, features an optional audio track featuring narration by horror-sci-fi star Robert England. Other enhanced features include additional character information and trivia questions. Boogeymen marked the inaugural release from FlixMix, a subsidiary of Universal Pictures that promises to deliver "nothing but the good stuff" from the various genres that it tackles. ~ Brian J. Dillard, All Movie Guide

Editorial Review of DVD

=Boogeymen is a greatest hits of gore cinema, a veritable That's Entertainment! of horror extravaganzas, but the extras are what make =Boogeymen worth the money; you can opt to watch the scenes with factoids across the bottom, and you can have Robert Englund give insights on an alternate soundtrack (the best way to watch it is with both options checked). There's a nifty "Name That Frame" game, detailed character backstories in text form, original theatrical trailers from each of the films represented, trailers of recommended films, and "enhanced scene selection" that takes you to a page that gives you options for the scene, legend, and trailer for each horror icon. The DVD-ROM feature takes you to more games, downloadable sound effects, and other horrific online goodies. ~ Buzz McClain, All Movie Guide

Why no Zero Stars? This is a TOTAL RIP OFF! The footage is garbage, because everytime the money shot is reached, bam! They cut away! No gore, no real interesting facts. Nothing to make this worthwhile. Just a bad little semi-documentary that should be avoided. No wonder there's no volume 2!

Overview of the most popular horror film villains/characters. Chucky, Freddy, Jason, Michael & numerous others. Informative.
