DVD Synopsis

Frequent Stephen King collaborator Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption) teamed with the celebrated horror author once again for this tale of terror concerning a small town engulfed by a malevolent mist, based on a story originally published in King's 1985 horror anthology -Skeleton Crew. When a thick fog descends upon a rural community and claims the lives of anyone unfortunate enough to be caught outside, a small band of survivors seeks refuge in a local grocery store. Now trapped in a darkened cloud of pure horror, the frightened denizens of the town are forced to fend off an advancing horde of murderous monsters. Punisher star Thomas Jane heads up an ensemble cast that includes Andre Braugher, Laurie Holden, William Sadler, and Marcia Gay Harden. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

I absolutely loved this movie, which is saying something because for the most part I am not a King fan or a Sci/Fi type person, And I truly wanted to love this movie for what it was an edge of your seat thriller, but then the ending came and after that 10 minute ending I decided that I had just wasted 1 hour and 50 mins of my time. Because as the credits rolled I decided that the ending to that movie was useless and shameful for such a wonderful movie. I don't think I will ever watch it again.

This movie was such a nice surprise. I expected to hate it, but it turned out to be my favorite Stephen King film adaptation. Lots of people complain about the ending of this movie. THEY'RE WRONG. NOT EVERY MOVIE CAN OR SHOULD END WITH A HOLLYWOOD FEEL-GOOD MOMENT. I thought the ending was GREAT and a huge upgrade from the rather pedestrian way the book ended.

This movie was awful. The ending totally ruined the movie. The ending qualifies it as one of the worst movies ever.

One of the great things about Stephen King is that he can easily scare the heck out of you without resorting to senseless gore and cheap thrills.
I read this particular story years ago and then happened across the live audio adaptation which was even better.
The movie adaptation changes much of what made the story fantastic. As is the norm for Hollywood, violence and gore had to be added for the sake of violence and gore. The worst edit though, was the ending. The original ending was great and open ended, allowing you to imagine all sorts of possibilities. The movie ending was not only a cheap thrill conclusion, but limited your reaction, chanelling it into exactly what Hollywood wanted it to be.
My friend who saw the movie with me, and had not read the book, mentioned afterwards where she thought the movie SHOULD have ended. Oddly enough, it was exactly where the original ending was.
I'm of the opinion that Hollywood assumes everyone is an idiot and so must treat them as such. I much prefer King's original version, which treated me as an intelligent reader.
That said, it IS a Stephen King movie, so I'll probably watch it again at some point in my life...

I absolutely adore Thomas Jane but this movie was one of the worst scifi/horror films I have seen recently. The entities are horrible...I don't know who designed them but they need to go back to entity school. The story...what story? Like I said, the only thing great to watch is Thomas Jane.

OMG this movie was so good, scary, and intense. I've heard some people say this wasn't as good as the book, but I've never read it, so can't compare, but if the book is better, I would like to read that too. Has an ending you would not expect.
