DVD Synopsis

Tongue-in-cheek humor prevails in Batman, a witty homage to the Dynamic Duo's exaggerated exploits. The Caped Crusaders (Adam West and Burt Ward) are called in as a last resort when the criminal masterminds of the millennium team up to conquer Gotham City by turning the U.N. Security Council into dehydrated dust; among the villains are the Joker (Cesar Romero), Catwoman (Lee Meriwether), the Riddler (Frank Gorshin), and the Penguin (Burgess Meredith). The entire cast is excellent, particularly West and Ward, who distinguish themselves among a standout list with hilariously straight-faced performances. The film includes some truly memorable scenes, highlighted by a particularly tenacious shark with a vertical leap that would put Spud Webb to shame and a bomb on the waterfront with no place to explode (nuns, infants and lovebirds beware!). ~ Jeremy Beday, All Movie Guide

Editorial Review of DVD

To many fans of the Caped Crusader, the Batman television series and this spin-off theatrical feature are superior to the somewhat overblown features that Tim Burton kicked off in 1989. Thankfully, this excellent 20th Century Fox DVD release of the 1966 Batman theatrical feature is perfectly tailored to fans of the ultra mod TV show. The DVD is dubbed the "Holy Special Edition, Batman!" and features a sparkling anamorphic widescreen transfer. Viewers can choose between a Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono or Stereo mix of the soundtrack. To be honest, there doesn't seem to be much discernible difference between the sound quality of the two audio mixes, but at least neither sounds bad. An audio commentary courtesy of stars Adam West and Burt Ward is wonderful, as is a better-than-average "making of" featurette. Full of humorous anecdotes and good cheer, the commentaries of Ward and the decidedly eccentric West can actually be revisited more than once -- and they are often more entertaining than the movie itself. If that weren't enough, the DVD also features a short documentary on the Batmobile, photo galleries, and genuinely funny theatrical trailers. While the Batman feature film itself isn't equal to the beloved 1960s TV series that spawned it, fans will still cherish this excellent DVD release. ~ Nick Dedina, All Movie Guide

I love the Batman movies, whether they be animated or video, all of them that is except for this one. This is an annoying reminder of what batman originally was, of what movies were in general long ago - lame and pathetic. Not to mention it has the original Batman theme, the only Batman theme that sucks. Don't waste your time with this movie. Try all of the ones that were made after it instead.

Charming movie based on and following the same format as the classic live-action TV Batman. There's no one like Adam West. :) Includes all your favorite classic baddies, the classy tuxedo-man Penguin, Catwoman, Joker, etc.

60's television at it's best. POW! BAM! The Dynamic duo are taking action again. Great clarity and very nostalgic. Every parent should make the kids watch TV the way it use to be.
