Deadly mind power gets a different twist with director
Brian De Palma's horror movie about a father (
Kirk Douglas) and his search for his telekinetic son (
Andrew Stevens). Fox has done an only passable job with this 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer. While some scenes during the film look nice, others seem grainy, dirty, or dark. This type of problem seems to fluctuate throughout the length of the film. While this transfer is certainly the best version of
The Fury available to consumers, it is still vastly disappointing. Audio is presented in Dolby Digital 4.0, as well as English 2.0 Surround and French 1.0 Mono. The 4.0 mix is strong but does not show very aggressive directional qualities. Dialogue, music, and effects are all well mixed with no distortion present. English and Spanish subtitles are also included. Fox apparently decreed that this film didn't need a special edition, and as such, has only included a still gallery featuring some promotional materials, the original theatrical trailer for
The Fury, and five bonus trailers for
Alien,
The Fly,
David Cronenberg's remake of
The Fly,
Lake Placid, and the
Richard Donner thriller
The Omen. Fans of
Brian De Palma may want to have this disc, but they may be frustrated at the lack of video quality and supplements. ~ Patrick Naugle, All Movie Guide
