DVD Synopsis

A grieving widow finds her husband's warmth radiating from the afterlife when she discovers that he left her a series of tasks to be revealed in ten monthly messages and designed to help her overcome her sorrow while gradually making the transition into a new life. Holly Kennedy (Hilary Swank) is a New York real estate broker whose good-humored husband, Irishman Gerry (Gerard Butler), always stood by her side. Suddenly, and seemingly out of nowhere, Gerry succumbs to a brain tumor and Holly is left to face an uncertain future. No one in the world knows Holly better than Gerry, not even her mother (Kathy Bates) or her best friends, Sharon (Gina Gershon) and Denise (Lisa Kudrow). But while Holly remains unsure if she can go on without the love of her life to help guide her, Gerry has planned ahead. On Holly's 30th birthday, she receives a cake and a special tape recording from Gerry that implores her to get out and celebrate instead of staying in and mourning. Later, as the months wear on, a series of additional messages arrive from Gerry -- always delivered in the most remarkable and surprising of ways. With each new message comes a new adventure, and each letter signs off in the same familiar way: "P.S. I love you." Despite the fact that Holly's mother and friends think these humorous, posthumous messages are keeping Holly bound to the past, the truth is that they are lovingly guiding her into the future while proving that sometimes death isn't just the end, but a new beginning as well. Director Richard LaGravenese teams with screenwriter Steve Rogers to adapt author Cecelia Ahern's best-selling novel. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

I was expecting a sweet, sappy movie, which would have been good. It was much better than expected. Very uplifting. I may just keep this one a while!

I am honestly flabbergasted at all the bad reviews for this movie. I can say, without a doubt, that this is one of my all time favorites! I have seen it several times and it just never gets old. I love that fact that Gerry loved Holly enough to plan out everthing that he did for her, to help her grieve for him. Because he knew her so well, he knew that would be something that she needed to get by. This movie will make you laugh, make you cry, and make you smile. If you are a woman like me who loves romance, than you will love this movie also. It is so sweet and hearfelt that if makes me long for a love like Holly and Gerry's, minus the dying part.

I read the book a couple of years ago and have just gotten around to seeing the movie. Tho the premise is the same, young woman loses her husband who arranged ahead of time for letters to be sent to her after he died, that's about the end of the similarities. Oh sure, she has friends who help along the way, and cute guys to flirt with, just enough to make her remember she's lost her love, but that's not exclusive to this book, that's pretty much any love loss story.

**Probable Spoilers Below**

The movie is good, the book is better, isn't that always the way? Ha ha. The movie is predictable, from beginning to end, so if you want that in a flick, this one is a good one. Her husband is hot, and adores her, even tho she's a bit neurotic. She keeps quiting jobs, and he offers to get a second one, she spends loads of money on cute shoes, but they manage to secure a nice apartment and Holly goes a full year after her husband's death, buying new things, new clothes, ordering take out, taking trips, and generally living better than anyone I know who isn't supposed to be, well, "living" for the grief. Where does the money come from? More movie magic.

While I individually like the actors; Hillary Swank, Kathy Bates, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, et al, I really think there were better people out there for these roles. They just didn't sell it for me. They were flat and predictable. All this being said, it was a nice movie. I cried and laughed and am glad I watched it.

This wasnt as good as I believed it could be but it wasnt at all terrible. A good chick flick showing how you dont always see the love you had and how perfect and inperfect it was but also how you can cope when it is gone and move on from the pain of losing it.

Simply put - thumbs down. Bad acting, no chemistry, boring story, too long (over 2 hours), typical cliches, and on and on... Keep your finger on the fast forward button.

P.S. I Love You is a very good movie, and yes, you will need a box of tissues to watch it (if you're a girl). While it may have some cliche's, it is a very entertaining story to watch unfold. Gerry Butler has a supporting role in this film - Hilary's character (Hollie)is what this story is all about. I did think that her character was a little too carefree for being a widow, but everyone handles death differently, and she is a good actress so she did well in the role. Gerry's character will make you fall in love with him immediately, so the audience understands why Hollie needs his letters to help her go on with her life.

I have watched all kinds of movies. Ones that make you laugh, ones that make you cry. But I have never cryied my eyes out through an entire movie before. So if you are looking for a good cry, well then this is the movie for you. I cryied thought the whole movie and two hours afterwards. I guess that is why I like scary movies more. This is a good movie, but you will need a box of tissue to watch it.

Normally I wouldn't do this as I don't think it's really right when reviewing but the thing is, I haven't actually seen P.S.I LOVE YOU but I have seen the trailer. At the time that I'm writing this review, just this version alone has 94 wishers. My review is of the trailer, not the whole movie.

I've seen chick flicks before and I've seen "get in touch with your feelings" type movies too. They're not my favorite type of movie but I can watch them. This thing though, its just too much. I can't even imagine sitting through this movie, the trailer is torture enough. I mean, hell, she's awfully happy for someone whose husband died. I guess the husband must have been such a dreamy, loving guy that he selfishly wrote his wife a bunch of letters telling her how to have fun after he's dead. I never before be so negatively effected by a trailer. There scenes of Hilary running around acting all happy and excited are just too much. And the scene where some chick says something like "I wish I had someone sending me letters telling me how to..." That got to me also.

I wish there was someway that I could see this movie for free. I like to torture myself that way sometimes.
