MGM's DVD edition of
Bucktown, a part of their budget-priced "Soul Cinema" line, serves up its film in a decent no-frills edition. The video is surprisingly good for such an old film, boasting a widescreen transfer that is reasonably colorful and crisp for its age. There is bit of artifacting in one nightclub scene, but the disc otherwise delivers a sharp picture that is free of defects. The mono Dolby Digital audio track lacks the sonic sparkle of a stereo mix, but delivers a clean, sharp soundtrack (Spanish and French subtitles are offered in place of foreign language soundtracks). The only extra offered on the
Bucktown disc is a trailer. It's a pretty entertaining trailer, but those unfamiliar with the film may want to avoid watching before the film because it utilizes most of the film's action set pieces. All in all, =Bucktown is a solid DVD package that will please the budget-minded blaxploitation enthusiast. ~ Donald Guarisco, All Movie Guide
