Like many of the DVDs in MGM's "Soul Cinema" line,
Across 110th Street is light on extras. In fact, the only extra to speak of here is the film's original theatrical trailer, which is best viewed after the film because it gives away a significant amount of the film's plot points. Just the same, this DVD edition of
Across 110th Street remains worthwhile because of the quality remastering job done for the film. The anamorphically enhanced widescreen image is sharp and captures the hazy, glossy quality of
Jack Priestley's cinematography much better than previous video incarnations of the film have. The disc also offers a nice two-channel Dolby Digital sound mix that adds some punch to
Bobby Womack's musical score. Rounding out the disc are a series of audio and subtitling choices that are pretty impressive for a basic edition DVD, offering English, French, and Spanish subtitles as well as French and Spanish audio tracks. In the end,
Across 110th Street might have benefitted from some bonus features, but it remains a decent way for viewers to become acquainted with this film thanks to its above-average technical quality. ~ Donald Guarisco, All Movie Guide
