Director
John Landis got his start making the ape comedy-monster movie
Schlock in 1973. Anchor Bay has done some nice work on this title, starting with a very good looking 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer. For a film that ran on an a budget of around ten dollars, Anchor Bay has done a great job cleaning up the print and minimizing any blemishes or scratches. Edge enhancement was kept to a bare minimum, as was any digital artifacting or shimmer. Audio for =Schlock is presented in Dolby Digital 1.0 Mono and sounds as good as a mono track from 1973 can. While the dialogue, effects, and music were all basically distortion free, the overall fidelity of the track was flat and unimpressive. No subtitles are included on this disc. Fans of this movie will thrill to a few well produced extra features, including a funny and informative commentary track by
John Landis and master makeup effects man
Rick Baker, a trailer for
Schlock, four radio spots, talent biographies, and a still gallery of about 80 photos. Anchor Bay is to be commended for doing a very nice job on this "shlocky" film. ~ Patrick Naugle, All Movie Guide
