Part of a box set celebrating the work of English screen legend
Dirk Bogarde, the experimental 1960s feature
Accident is finally back in print thanks to Anchor Bay Entertainment and this budget-priced DVD release. Director
Joseph Losey and screenwriter
Harold Pinter had previously collaborated on
The Servant, a twisted comment on warfare between the classes and the sexes that was a surprise hit at the box office. While
Accident isn't at the same level as
The Servant, it's still a very intriguing movie that draws a lot of emotional juice from
Dirk Bogarde's central performance as a middle-aged professor forced to confront his life after the title incident. The movie has been digitally remastered and returned to its original widescreen aspect ratio but the source print does show marked signs of wear and tear. The Mono audio track is in Dolby Digital and displays some hiss. While neither the audio nor visual channels are perfect, they are a marked improvement over past releases; it was good of Anchor Bay to even show an interest in a minor cult film like
Accident which has been out of print for years.
Accident also comes in a special DVD box set celebrating the work of actor
Dirk Bogarde that contains the remastered editions of
The Servant and
The Mind Benders. ~ Nick Dedina, All Movie Guide
