DVD Synopsis

Academy Award-winning actress Helen Hunt makes her feature directorial debut with this adaptation of Elinor Lipman's best-selling novel about a Philadelphia schoolteacher (Hunt) whose long-lost birth mother (Bette Midler) reappears at the very moment her daughter is careening into a midlife crisis. Helen Hunt & Colin Firth are great together in this honest look at following your heart. This is a love story with real people with real issues. The level of honesty that Helen brings in her directing is refreshing. As a single parent myself I love seeing the parent being blessed with love again, where the new dad/mom loves the kids as much as if not more than the absent biological parent. Because of language I would not suggest this movie for children.
