DVD Synopsis
In this sci-fi comedy from executive producer George Lucas, Howard the Duck is an extra-terrestrial fowl who is accidentally beamed to earth by physicist Dr. Jenning (Jeffrey Jones) and his assistant Phil (Tim Robbins). The two go looking for Howard and find him in the home of Beverly Switzer (Lea Thompson), who was rescued by the interstellar duck from some mean-looking thugs. Beverly and Phil are friends, and when the government finds out about Howard, she helps Phil and Dr. Jenning hide him from the authorities until they can zap him back home. Adapted from a comic book, this is a combination "grown up" movie (various adult themes and references you probably wouldn't get away with in a kids' movie these days), wrapped in the packaging of a kids' movie.It's kitschy, campy, and VERY 80's. Wow is it 80's. If you want to preview it go to Hulu.com, if you love its nostalgia then pick this up, for sure. It's comedic, with a dash of sci-fi, and did I mention 80's kitsch? Yowsa!
One of my favorite childhood movies (must've watched it in the theater 10 times with my dad)... I'm sure we paid the theater's mortgage that month. I'm mildly ecstatic that they're finally giving it a DVD treatment!
