DVD Synopsis

This teen psychological thriller marks the feature film debut of respected television producer and director Daniel Sackheim. Leelee Sobieski stars as Ruby Baker, a high school student who is devastated when her parents Grace and Dave (Rita Wilson and Michael O'Keefe) are killed in a tragic car accident. With her younger brother Rhett (Trevor Morgan), Ruby is sent to live with the legal guardians chosen by her parents, their best friends Terry (Stellan Skarsgård) and Erin Glass (Diane Lane). The Glasses live in an opulent Malibu mansion where Ruby and Rhett are promised all of the finest luxuries money can buy and a lavish new rich-kid lifestyle. Before long, however, Ruby begins to suspect that her new caretakers are not what they appear on the surface and that the couple's financial woes may force them to harm her or Rhett in order to cash in on their sizable life insurance policies. The Glass House was written by Wesley Strick, screenwriter of Cape Fear (1991), Wolf (1994), and The Saint (1997). ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide

Editorial Review of DVD

Leelee Sobieski stars in the tense thriller The Glass House, also starring Diane Lane. This 2.35:1 anamorphic transfer looks very good with hardly any imperfections hindering the image. The colors, black levels, and fleshtones all look evenly rendered and very bright. Except for a small amount of edge enhancement, this is a great-looking picture from Columbia. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround in English, as well as Dolby 2.0 in English and French. This Dolby 5.1 soundtrack sounds very good, utilizing surround sounds in many instances (especially during scenes featuring rain or zooming cars). All aspects of the dialogue, effects, and Christopher Young's terrifying score are free of any distortion or hiss. Also included on this disc are English and French subtitles. =The Glass House includes a medium-sized amount of extra features, starting with a commentary track by director Daniel Sackheim and writer Wesley Strick. Both men seem to remember a lot from the production, and often times questions are asked from one man to the other, then subsequently answered. Also included on this disc is a single deleted scene featuring optional director commentary, some brief interviews with the cast members, a few scant production notes, and theatrical trailers for the movies I Know What You Did Last Summer and The Glass House. All in all, this is a very well-produced edition of The Glass House. ~ Patrick Naugle, All Movie Guide
