All that glitters is not always gold in the
Mariah Carey box-office disappointment
Glitter. However, Columbia has done a nice job on this 2.40:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer. The colors are all bright and well-rendered while the black levels are even without the slightest hint of gray. No edge enhancement, shimmer, or digital artifacting is present during any scenes in the movie. Say what you will about the movie, but this transfer by Columbia looks excellent. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 in both French and English. This 5.1 soundtrack is also very good, featuring a lot of surround usage by both the front and rear speakers. Many scenes in the film take place in nightclubs which utilize the deep bass to maximum effect. All aspects of the dialogue, effects, and music are crystal clear without any distortion whatsoever. Also included on this disc are English and French subtitles (because the French are big fans of
Mariah Carey's acting skills, perhaps?). Columbia has added a few extra features on this disc for fans of the singer/actress, starting with two music videos from the movie, "Loverboy" (featuring the singer prancing around in tight shorts and shirts) and "Never Too Far" (featuring the singer live in concert). A commentary track by director
Vondie Curtis-Hall gives little insight into the film, though the director does have a few useful stories to share about the production of the film. Finally, there are some filmographies on the cast and crew and theatrical trailers for the movies
