DVD Synopsis

A time capsule containing a cryptic message about the coming apocalypse sends a concerned father on a race to prevent the horrific events from unfolding as predicted in this sci-fi thriller directed by Alex Proyas (Dark City) and starring Nicolas Cage. 1958: As the dedication ceremony for a newly constructed elementary school gets under way, a time capsule containing student drawings of the future is buried on the grounds and scheduled to be unearthed on the school's 50th anniversary. Instead of submitting a drawing, however, one little girl scribbles a series of seemingly random numbers on her paper before it is buried. Fifty years later, the time capsule is unearthed for a new generation of students to examine. Young Caleb Koestler (Chandler Canterbury) is one of those students. The mysterious sequence of numbers falling into his possession, Caleb takes the paper to his father, Professor John Koestler (Cage), for examination. Studying the numbers, Professor Koestler soon discovers that they aren't random at all, but an encoded message containing the precise dates, death tolls, and coordinates of every major disaster since the time capsule was buried. Not only that, but the document also indicates that there will be three more such events, the last of which indicates a doomsday scenario that appears directly tied to Professor Koestler and Caleb. His desperate plea to authorities falling on deaf ears, Professor Koestler realizes that his only hope for preventing more lives from being lost is to take personal action. Though the author of the prophecies is no longer living, Professor Koestler is eventually able to track down her daughter Diana Wayland (Rose Byrne), and granddaughter Abby, who reluctantly agree to aid in the investigation. As the final date on the list draws near, Professor Koestler enters into a frantic race against time to prevent destruction on a global scale, in the process realizing that in order to save millions of lives, he may have to make the ultimate sacrifice. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

This movie was brilliant! I too at first thought it was odd and was going to be no good, but it really fooled me. This movie had me in tears and made me wonder about life and what if something like this ever happened.

Awesome movie. Didn't realize what it was about, was beginning to think it was a 'wierdie'. Went back and watched it a second time to get the full meaning.

This movie is a breath of fresh air! A non-violent metaphysical "what if" film that shows the never-seen-before acting ability of Nicolas Cage. Captivating plot; and a spiritually pleasant (yet unexpected) finale. Don't hesitate! This one's a keeper!

I can see why alot of people didn't care for this movie...especially if you are super-religious and/or are scared easily. That being said...I thought it was pretty eccelent! A complete surprise to me, granted I knew nothing about it when I sat down to watch it. Good story...not many holes like some of these reviewers are suggesting, you just have to pay attention...it's all there. EXCELENT action sequences and special effects...even Nick Cage is good in his roll as a MIT Astrophysics professor(I'm not a big fan). There is a big ending and I was impressed by the way it all unfolded...you find yourelf expecting one thing and then it just doesn't happen. Definitely worth a spin...I'll watch it again I'm sure. Very well made and a cool flick for sure.

This movie had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Excellent sci-fi suspense drama.

This movie is all about the ending. Once you find out what is happening, you find yourself wondering how they are going to stop it or escape it. And then the ending happens and you're like "what the heck kind of movie is this?". Not in a good way either. The movie is all about the ending and it lets you down BIG TIME. You may want to watch it once, it's actually a fairly good story. Just be prepared for a let down at the end.

I got up 7 or 8 times to make dinner and didn't seem to really miss anything. This was a bit slow, when I first started watching I though the charactors were CG. Maybe they just spent to much time in post production as everyone has eyes a bit to wide and skin a bit to flawless in the 1950's part. The film seemed to plod along for me and I lost interest and just couldn't stop from talking during the movie. I'm glad it was a rental and I didn't spend credits on it.

This is the single worst let down of a movie I've had since Unbreakable. Yes, it is sci-fi but was NEVER advertised as such, only action and mystery. Obviously I should have done research into it before I actually rented it. Not only is it sc-fi, it's horror throughout the entire thing. Very very VERY misleading and the ending was so "WHAT? I don't follow!!"

It is a well done movie in terms of filming, but the plot is full of unresolved holes and misleading random subplots. I don't suggest you watch it at night, home alone. You WILL have to watch another not FREAKY movie afterwords. Very disappointing as a film in general, but if you like sci-fi/horror, you might enjoy everything but the ending. SPOILER! Too much like Ender's Game.
