The alien invasion action flick
The Hidden features a decently done 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer by New Line.
The Hidden was shot on a very low budget, and as such, sports some grain, dirt, and edge enhancement that is intrusive in some scenes, yet not as prevalent in others. While most of the colors and flesh tones look solid, overall this transfer lacks the depth and detail of newer DVD releases. Audio is presented in a new Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround mix and sounds slightly above average. The directional effects are used generously if not to maximum effect, and the dialogue, music, and effects are all clean and distortion-free. This track won't blow away a listener's sound system, but it does include more detail than the Dolby Digital 2.0 track also included on this disc. Also included on this edition of the
The Hidden are English subtitles.
=The Hidden features some interesting extra material, including a scene-specific commentary track by directors Jack Shoder and
Tim Hunter. This commentary track is informative yet sometimes lulls into being a bit dry. Also included on this disc is a demo reel of creature designs with optional commentary, as well as a theatrical trailer for
The Hidden and some cast biographies. While certainly not the most complete edition one would desire, overall this is an above-par disc that fans should enjoy. ~ Patrick Naugle, All Movie Guide
