Editorial Review of DVD

There is a surprising number of special features in Artisan Home Entertainment's widescreen, anamorphic presentation of Road Dogz. Behind-the-scenes interviews shot during the film's production makes the package feel special, too bad the interviews are lamely self-aggrandizing -- and why wasn't director Alfredo Ramos interviewed? Ramos gets his say in the wall-to-wall commentary, along with cast member Jacob Vargas; the pair amplify the emotional content of the movie by describing the intentions (it's just too bad more of their goals weren't met). The Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound should be your first choice, but there's Dolby 2.0 as well. The production notes section goes into detail about the film, and the director and cast filmographies are useful only to see the titles of rising star Clifton Collins Jr. Full-motion menus, subtitles, and the trailer round out this substantial package. The image transfer isn't great -- most likely a consequence of the film stock -- but the bright colors are firm, so you can't really complain. ~ Buzz McClain, All Movie Guide
