This video is another release from The Baby Einstein Company, a group that is dedicated to introducing cultural concepts to infants and very small children. Bold patterns, colors, toys, and other basic objects are shown onscreen and are designed to teach abstract ideas like prediction and object permanence. Parents are encouraged to interact with the video by pointing to the objects on the screen and repeating or explaining them to the child. Baby Einstein focuses on phonemes, or the sounds of human language. The idea of teaching such a concept to very young children is based on research showing that infants have a natural ability to distinguish and absorb the sounds of all languages, but gradually lose this ability as they grow older. Repeated exposure to basic sounds of foreign languages at a young age may help form connections in the brain that allow them to be retained for a longer period of time. Included in the video are simple words, phrases, and numbers in the languages of English, Spanish, French, German, Hebrew, Russian, and Japanese. ~ Sarah Block, All Movie Guide
Editorial Review of DVD
This disc provides an entertaining way for infants and young toddlers (birth to 18 months) to learn about foreign languages. Video "flash cards" expose children to new words, while a concert of nursery rhymes exposes children to stories from around the world. The disc offers a standard full-frame transfer. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Stereo. There are neither subtitles nor closed captions on this release. The disc comes with a guide that helps instruct parents on how to use this disc to maximize a child's potential. Those who have grown accustomed to the fine work of the Baby Einstein company will not be disappointed by this release. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide

This is a very soothing video with pleasant images and sounds.
While babies aren't going to learn a language by watching this, it does open them up to the idea that there are other human sounds besides the ones they hear at home on a daily basis. There is a nice mix of basics (ie: numbers), rhymes, and songs, some of which my older children enjoyed repeating to their baby sister later.

really, really great movie in my opinion, however it seems to be over (rather under) my toddler's nearly-bilingual head. age range is up to 18 months. my daughter started watching it @ 16 months and after 2 viewings, stops paying attention to it after a few minutes. for the record, she has recently watched movies like "the wizard of oz" and "the muppets take manhattan" in their 90+ minute entirety. if your child is similar, i might rent this and skip up to Little Einstein instead. had i known, i would have definitely invested in this movie about 12 months earlier as it is indeed a powerful introduction to other languages.
