After having been outmatched in the live-action family film department by rival Nickelodeon in recent years, Disney jumps back into the kid-friendly fray with this comedy about a seventh grader (Alex D. Linz) who's mercilessly picked on by his school's bullies and by his principal (Larry Miller). When his parents (Nora Dunn and Robert Carradine) inform Max that they're moving at the end of the week, he takes the opportunity to exact several forms of creative revenge on his many tormenters. When it subsequently turns out that the Keebles aren't leaving town after all, little Max is left to the mercy of those he's just humiliated. Wackiness ensues in the Disney kid's comedy Max Keeble's Big Movie. The film is presented in a cropped 1.33:1 full frame version, and as such sports minor flaws as artifacting and a light softness in the colors. Otherwise the black levels and color patterns all appear solid and well defined. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround in English and is very full and bombastic. There are a great many scenes featuring directional effects in this film, and this mix utilizes them to the best of its ability. All aspects of the soundtrack are free and clear of any excessive distortion. Also included on this disc are English closed captions. =Max Keeble's Big Movie features a fair amount of extra features, starting with a short behind-the-scenes featurette titled "Alex to the Max." This featurette is a quick look at the production with interviews by the producer, director, and other stars. A reel of mildly amusing deleted scenes is included, plus a set top DVD trivia game for a PC. Finally there is a funny and informative commentary track by Alex D.Linz, Jamie Kennedy, and Larry Miller; director Tim Hill; and producer Mike Karz.
