Music and birthday suits collide in
The First Nudie Musical. The film is presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen and looks in pretty poor shape. With an excess or grain, dirt and scratches marring the image, this transfer won't please die hard fans of the film. While some of the colors and black levels are solid and clear, overall this is a very disappointing and substandard transfer. The soundtrack is presented in Dolby Digital 1.0 Mono in English and is about on par with the video transfer. The dialogue often sounds flat and looped while a small amount of hiss penetrates the mix. Some of the musical numbers sound decent, though otherwise this is an only passable soundtrack. No alternate soundtracks or subtitles are included on this mix. Image Entertainment has provided viewers with a wealth of extras, starting with two commentary tracks -- one by co-directors and writer
Bruce Kimmel and producer
Nick Redman, and a second with Kimmel and actors
Cindy Williams and
Stephen Nathan. Both of these tracks are worth a few laughs, each giving out equal parts production info and anecdotes about the movie. The nearly hour long documentary "From Dollars to Donuts: An Undressing of The First Nudie Musical" is a hysterical look at the making of the film with the cast and crew all spoofing themselves as well as Hollywood's top stars and actors. This is a very funny and entertaining feature that's well worth the watch. Finally there are a couple of deleted sequences that are in fairly poor shape, a montage still gallery, and a goofy theatrical trailer for the film. ~ Patrick Naugle, All Movie Guide
