Bruce Willis stars in the tense action film
Hart's War. MGM's work on this 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer is excellent. With an abundance of solid fleshtones, colors, and black levels, this transfer comes close to being reference quality. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround in English, as well as Dolby 2.0 Surround in French, Spanish, and Portuguese. The 5.1 mix on this disc is very exciting with directional effects filtered though both the front and rear channels at all times. Both the 2.0 and 5.1 soundtracks are clear of any excessive hiss or distortion. Also included on this disc are French, Spanish, and Portuguese subtitles. The extra features start off with two very informative commentary tracks, one by director
Gregory Hoblit, screenwriter
Billy Ray, and
Bruce Willis, and a second by producer
David Foster. Each of these tracks include anecdotes about the production, where the film's origins started (a novel), and what it was like making a war film. Also included on the disc are ten anamorphic deleted scenes with optional director commentary, each providing extra added insight into what the film was missing. Finally there is a photo gallery with almost 50 stills and a theatrical trailer for the film. ~ Patrick Naugle, All Movie Guide
