DVD Synopsis

John Cusack and James Spader play against type in Kevin Wade's morality play, directed by Herbert Ross. Spader plays Tim Gerrity, a well-heeled WASP blueblood, who has dedicated his life to justice and public service. Engaged to Diana Stiles (Imogene Stubbs), the daughter of a powerful senator (Richard Widmark), Tim seems to have a rosy future ahead of him. Enter Peter Burton (John Cusack), Peter's working-class roommate at the University of Virginia. Peter, a ravenous and devouring go-getter, is out to climb the political ladder at any cost. He sees Tim and latches onto him. Their friendship blooms at the university and continues afterwards, with the weak-willed Tim constantly deferring to the antagonistic and aggressive Peter. But they finally come to blows on skis when Tim finds out that Peter has bedded Diana, who has decided to drop Tim for his lack of ambition. When Peter blackmails Senator Stiles to secure a House seat, Tim rouses himself from his lethargy to fight Peter politically. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide

Editorial Review of DVD

John Cusack and James Spader co-star as old friends betraying trusts in True Colors, which comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. Closed-captioned English soundtracks are rendered in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround, while a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Stereo. English subtitles are accessible. There are no supplemental materials of any consequence, but this Paramount release does contain excellent sound and picture quality. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide

I love John Cusack. I love James Spader in Boston Legal. If you just want to watch it to see them, it is worth it. John Cusack either has some great movies or some duds. This was more like a milk dud, Chocolate(seeing John and James), with an irritating chewy center that sticks to your teeth that gives you a headache and you cant wait for it to end. The beginning kept you interested. In the end you just wanted it over. Johns EYES looked beady and small. James played a lawyer. Both were great eye candy. John has a love scene and it seems so unlike him to be this hot guy in bed. Do you see John as some hot lover? Hmm Spader either? Maybe My advice watch it, and move on and eat Junior Mints.
