MGM presents two blood curdling movies on one single DVD: The Masque of the Red Death and The Premature Burial. Each film is presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen and appears to be in near-pristine shape. The colors, black levels and flesh tones all appear to be accurate and in excellent condition. Aside of a small amount of dirt in the image, both of these transfers should please fans of macabre horror. The soundtracks are presented in Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono in English and are very serviceable. While neither track will blow away a home surround sound system (directional effects are nonexistent), each mix is clear of any excessive hiss or distortion. Also included on this disc are English, French, and Spanish subtitles. As far as extras go, each film includes a short featurette which sports an interview with director Roger Corman. Both of these featurettes are worthwhile as Corman discusses multiple aspects of what it took to bring each respective film to the screen. Also included with each film is a companion widescreen theatrical trailer. ~ Patrick Naugle, All Movie Guide
