Jeff Grant (River Phoenix) is a San Diego teen who discovers his father Richard (Richard Jenkins) and mother Elizabeth Grant) are KGB agents. When he applies to the Air Force Academy, a routine FBI check leads to the shocking news. Soon the suburb of Fountain Grove becomes the focus of international agents and espionage. FBI agent Roy Parmenter (Sidney Poitier) helps Jeff absorb the shock and he battles KGB agent Konstantin Karpov (Richard Bradford) in a race to capture the Soviet agents. River Phoenix stars in the Sidney Poitier directed Little Nikita. The film is presented in its original 1.85:1 aspect ratio with an anamorphic enhancement for 16x9 TVs. While there are a few instances where blemishes and dirt crop up, overall this is a decent looking print with sharp colors and dark black levels. Also included on this disc is a 1.33:1 full frame transfer of the film. The soundtrack is presented in a passable Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround sound mix in English. Though this sound mix won't win any awards as reference quality, the music, effects and dialogue are all clear of any excessive hiss or distortion. Also included on this disc are English, French, Spanish and Korean subtitles. Fans are going to be disappointed to find only a full frame theatrical trailer for the film located under Little Nikita's supplemental materials menu. ~ Patrick Naugle, All Movie Guide
