Anchor Bay's DVD release of this exciting, eerie, and thoroughly original Dutch horror film is a treat for the discerning genre fan. The disc's main selling point is its audio commentary track with director Rudolph Van Den Berg and original writers Roy Frumkes and Rocco Simonelli. Frumkes is probably best known as the screenwriter of the 1980s cult horror film Street Trash and the 1996 urban B-movie The Substitute, as well as the director of the fascinating documentary on George A. Romero's classic zombie film Dawn of the Dead, entitled Document of the Dead. The trio elaborates The Johnsons' serpentine production history, offering many amusing insights into the making of this strange, yet always fascinating film. Other features are the Dutch theatrical trailer with subtitles and talent bios.
