Godfrey Reggio's short film combining striking nature photography with wonderful music by Philip Glass has made it to DVD in good shape, even though the Miramar title has been taken over for production by Simitar. The film copy used is fortunately clean, with only minor speckles here and there, and is provided with a reasonably sharp and color-accurate transfer. The image is letterboxed to 1.85:1, non-anamorphic. Maintaining the color balance for this film is an important element, as Anima Mundi, like all of Reggio's films, is filled with color, both strident and muted. The digital audio track is encoded for surround, but seems to use the rear channel for reverb and ambience only. Glass' driving score is served fairly well, but seems a little compressed in places, especially compared to the score album. The static menus provide chapter access to five chapters, which is not set up very well, and there are no special features. ~ Steven E. McDonald, All Movie Guide
