Synopsis

Only Kelly Reno and Teri Garr from the cast of the original Black Stallion make appearances in The Black Stallion Returns. In the first film, young Reno rescued his beloved stallion from its cruel Arab owner. This time around, the stallion is abducted by Moroccan henchmen and bundled back to Africa. This paves the way for a repeat of all the salient action from the first Black Stallion. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Cast

Kelly Reno - Alec Ramsey
Vincent Spano - Raj
Allen Garfield - Kurr
Woody Strode - Meslar
Ferdy [Ferdinand] Mayne - Abu Ben Ishak

Editorial Review

The 1983 family drama The Black Stallion Returns comes to DVD from MGM. This double-sided disc contains both widescreen and full-screen transfers. Audio is available in English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound, French Stereo, and Spanish Mono. Optional subtitles are accessible in English, French, and Spanish. The only special feature is the theatrical trailer. Recommended for kids who like horses. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, All Movie Guide

Lisa Z. - FOND DU LAC, WI wrote on 1/14/2008...

A pretty good sequel to the fabulous "Black Stallion," this movie takes place mostly in the desert. The cinematography is lovely, though the plot tends toward the predictable side. Incidentally, this movie is based on a book in the "Black Stallion" series but many of the details, characters, and scenes have been changed. For instance, in the book, Henry Dailey (the trainer from the first movie/book) appears. In the movie? Not even a cameo. However, since I thought the "Black Stallion Returns" book was not very good, take it as a positive that this film has many differences. Most of them are decidedly for the better. One change in particular lends especial poignancy to Alec's pivotal decision right at the end.

I recommend this movie, particularly for horse-loving youngsters.
