Peter Berg made his directorial debut with this black comedy about suburbanite Kyle Fisher (Jon Favreau), his future bride Laura (Cameron Diaz) and his four pals -- brothers Adam (Daniel Stern) and Michael (Jeremy Piven), mechanic Charles (Leland Orser), and real estate agent Robert (Christian Slater). Kyle and gang head off to a stag-party fling in Vegas. The fun features hired stripper Tina (Carla Scott), killed accidentally during a bathroom make-out session with Michael. When a hotel security man investigates, Robert kills him. The group buries the bodies in the desert and head home. Back in L.A., guilt trips surface along with bouts of paranoia, Laura intends that nothing stand in the way of her wedding plans. Actor Peter Berg's directing debut was the black comedy Very Bad Things. The film is presented in its original 1.85:1 widescreen version with an anamorphic enhancement. The colors and black levels are all well saturated and solid with only the slightest amount of softness penetrating the image. Otherwise this is a clean, clear transfer that also includes an optional 1.33:1 full frame transfer. The soundtrack is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround in English. This is a very apt sounding mix that features a few directional effects through both the front and rear speakers. Otherwise, the soundtrack is generally confined to the front and center speakers with no hiss or distortion marring the mix. Also included on this disc are Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround soundtracks in English and French, as well as English subtitles. Little in the way of extra features has been included on this DVD of Very Bad Things -- all that fans get are some cast and crew filmographies / biographies and a theatrical trailer for the film. ~ Patrick Naugle, All Movie Guide
