Robert Bierman's satirical retro-romance A Merry War comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Stereo. There are neither subtitles nor closed-captions available on this release. This film failed to find an audience in its theatrical run, making the inclusion of so much supplemental material a welcome surprise. A commentary track from the director and the screenwriter is available, as are the original British and American trailers, cast and production biographies, and background on author George Orwell, whose story inspired this film.
