In the fall of 1975, NBC teamed up with an upstart writer and producer and a cast of promising unknowns recruited from improvisational comedy clubs and launched a brave experiment in late-night television. The show that resulted was called Saturday Night Live, and over the next quarter-century it broke all the rules and became an institution in American broadcasting. In 2000, SNL's past and present cast members, along with a number of friends, admirers, and musical guests, assembled to pay tribute to the show's rich history, and Saturday Night Live: 25th Anniversary preserves the show's celebratory anniversary special. Guests include Dan Aykroyd, Dana Carvey, Billy Crystal, Al Franken, Tom Hanks, Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy, Adam Sandler, Jerry Seinfeld, Kevin Spacey, Christopher Walken, and many more. NBC marked the silver anniversary of the sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live with a nearly three-hour, prime time extravaganza filled with clips and appearances by some of the show's greatest stars. This DVD contains that special episode presented in a standard full-frame transfer that preserves the original broadcast aspect ratio of the show. In addition, the English soundtrack does a fine job of capturing the original broadcast quality. Supplemental materials include a nearly hour-long interview SNL creator Lorne Michaels gave to Tim Russert and pieces on the historic show that aired on The Today Show and Access Hollywood.
