DVD Synopsis

In keeping with the light and slick tones of her earlier film What Women Want, Nancy Meyers writes and directs the romantic comedy Something's Gotta Give. Jack Nicholson plays Harry Langer, a swinging sixtysomething entertainment executive surrounded by plenty of young girlfriends. His latest romance is young petite sophisticate Marin (Amanda Peet), who takes him to her mother's beach house in the Hamptons for a weekend fling. However, Marin's successful Broadway playwright mother Erica Barry (Diane Keaton) is already vacationing at the house with her sister Zoe (Frances McDormand). Marin and Harry stay anyway, and Harry ends up having a heart attack. He goes to the hospital and is looked after by thirtysomething doctor Julian Mercer (Keanu Reeves). Impressed by her writing, Dr. Mercer finds himself pursuing a romance with Erica. Because of his serious health condition, he orders Harry to stay near the hospital. While Marin returns to Manhattan, Erica agrees to stay on and look after Harry. Of course they are repulsed by each other at first, but they end up falling in love throughout the recovery process. Also starring Jon Favreau as Harry's assistant. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, All Movie Guide

Editorial Review of DVD

Nancy Meyers' hit comedy Something's Gotta Give comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. English, French, and Spanish subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a pair of commentary tracks. The first features Meyers with female lead Diane Keaton (who earned an Oscar nomination for her work in this film) and producer Bruce A. Block. Obviously, Meyers deeply appreciated Keaton's work on the film, and the track is long on good fun if short on much notable filmmaking information. The second track features Meyers and male lead Jack Nicholson. Their track is much like an episode of Inside the Actor's Studio. Meyers fawns over Nicholson, but Nicholson goes into a certain amount of detail about how he shapes a character, and how he concentrates on the nuances of his character. This is a rather intriguing commentary. A deleted scene in which Nicholson's character sings to Keaton's, a tour of the film's main set hosted by co-star Amanda Peet, and filmographies round out this solid DVD. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide

This is a cute DVD about romance, age differences and expectations. I've actually watched this movie three times and I STILL laugh at certain parts in the movie. I credit great writing and superb cast. They really pulled it off well. Just thinking back on the hospital scene with the "loopy" Jack Nicholson makes me laugh all over again.

This movie was so good and so sweet all at the same time. Diane Keaton did such a great job and she was very funny. I laughed a lot.
Really good movie.

This adorable comedy centers around two adults who have gone a bit past mid-life but who have only yet to begun to feel what living is really like when this unlikely twosome falls in love and tragedy, joy, laughter and tears result. A great film to watch with Mom or a significant other, definitely a chick-flick of sorts, but one that some guys may enjoy, too.

I enjoyed this movie, maybe because I'm over 40. Jack was an $ss, but still adorable, sexy and irresistable...don't know why, but he usually manages to steal our hearts even when our heads say "No way!" Diane is a good actress and I found this movie to be interesting and entertaining.

I hated this movie! Keanu Reeves was worth seeing. Jack was an a$$, Diane had old teeth and just didnt look sexy enough to catch the attention of Doctor Keanu. Why would Diane even loves someone like Jack? No Chemistry between the two. Would never buy to keep.

I thought this movie was alright. The story wasn't exactly typical of this genre, but did we really have to see Diane Keaton's boobs? I think not.
