Martin Campbell directs the romantic adventure Beyond Borders. Angelina Jolie stars as Sarah Jordan, a American living with her wealthy British husband, Henry Bauford (Linus Roache), in London during the early '80s. At a charity benefit, she meets passionate relief worker Nick Callahan (Clive Owen), who chastises the rich people for not helping out the needy in war-torn countries. Sarah is quickly compelled to join his humanitarian cause to fight the famine in Ethopia. She then follows him to Cambodia, where they start up a love affair and Nick gets involved in an arms-smuggling operation before they finally end up in Chechnya. An American woman finds love, danger, and a sense of purpose when she joins an activist doctor in Africa in this drama, which has been given a polished presentation on DVD. Beyond Borders has been given a pan-and-scan transfer to disc in the full-screen aspect ratio of 1.33:1. (A letterboxed widescreen version is also available.) The original English-language soundtrack is presented in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround, while an alternate dubbed track in French is mixed in Dolby Digital Surround. Optional English-language subtitles are also included.
