DVD Synopsis

All of London is in love -- or longing to be -- in Four Weddings and a Funeral writer Richard Curtis' first directorial effort. Billed as "the ultimate romantic comedy," Love Actually involves more than a dozen main characters, each weaving his or her way into another's heart over the course of one particularly eventful Christmas. The seemingly perfect wedding of Juliet (Keira Knightley) and Peter (Chiwetel Ejiofor) brings many of the principals together, including heartsick best man Mark (Andrew Lincoln), who harbors a very unrequited crush on Juliet. There's also recent widower Daniel (Liam Neeson), trying to help his lonely stepson Sam (Thomas Sangster) express his true feelings to a classmate. Across town, devoted working mother Karen (Emma Thompson) tries to rekindle the passion of her husband, Harry (Alan Rickman), who secretly pines for a young colleague of his. In the same office, the lonely Sarah (Laura Linney) not-so-secretly pines for a man just a few desks away (Rodrigo Santoro), who returns her affections but may not be able to dissuade her neuroses. Providing the unofficial soundtrack for all of the couples is an aging rocker (Bill Nighy) who just wants to cash in and get laid -- but even he might find a meaningful relationship in the most unlikely of places. A working print of Love Actually premiered at the 2003 Toronto International Film Festival. ~ Michael Hastings, All Movie Guide

Editorial Review of DVD

Hugh Grant heads up the ensemble cast of this charming romantic comedy from Richard Curtis, who took his first turn behind the camera after penning the scripts for such well-received films as Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, and Bridget Jones's Diary. Love Actually criss-crosses the love lives of several characters over the course of the Christmas holiday and makes its way to DVD with a full-screen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. For Spanish- or French-speaking viewers, there are dubbed audio tracks and optional subtitles. Fans of the film can get a glimpse into the production process and set happenings with a full-length audio commentary track by Curtis, Grant, and cast members Bill Nighy and Thomas Sangster. Additionally, there are deleted scenes introduced by Curtis, a feature covering the music on the film's soundtrack, and the video for Kelly Clarkson's "The Trouble With Love Is." A widescreen version with identical features is also available. ~ Matthew Tobey, All Movie Guide

I liked this movie the first time I saw it.
After another viewing, I found the storylines very, very sad.
I would watch an entire movie based off the relationship between Liam Neeson's character and his movie step-son. Even more poignant now.

This is the best romance film ever made. The way the director intertwines the lives of these people, the only commonality between them love, in its many and various forms. I enjoyed that all love portrayed here was not simply the lustful, romantic love. I believe it's all covered here - sibling love, parent/child love, friendship love, first love, last love, new love, forbidden love, etc. The complexities in this movie far surpass any other romantic Christmastime story I've ever seen. Recommended for anyone who's ever loved another person in any way.

I loved this movie and continue to. I think it's a sweet and even profound essay on the nature and diversity of love: love of country, young love, first love, baudy love, family love, forbidden love, damaged and enduring love.

I thought the casting was superb and the music fits it perfectly and adds sparkle to a fun if rambling story.

If you're put off by all the jumps in the first 10 or 15 minutes (as I was the first time I saw it), hang in a little longer to see how all these threads intertwine. It's more than worth the bit of patience.
