Editorial Review of DVD

Peter Segal directs Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore in the fine romantic comedy 50 First Dates. The film is presented in a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.40:1. The image on the disc is faithful to Jack Green's fine cinematography, which lovingly captures Hawaii at its most beautiful. English and French soundtracks are written in Dolby Digital 5.1. English and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a commentary track written by Segal and Barrymore. This is an entertaining track mostly because the two of them are very loquacious and obviously enjoy each other's company. Those who are charmed by Barrymore's public persona will not be disappointed. Deleted scenes with optional commentary, a blooper reel, and a smattering of featurettes round out this solid release of an unexpectedly charming film. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide

%0 first dates re-teams Adam Sandler with Drew Barrymore. One might remember their prior team-up in The Wedding Singer (another good movie by the way)...

In this movie, the schtick is that Drew Barrymore's character really has only short-term memory, but can't seem to convert those memories into long-term memories (due to a car accident).

She wakes up every day thinking it's about 10 years ago (the morning before the car crash). Her father is uber-protective of her.

Sandler on the other hand plays a ladies man who (not wanting to get tied down) gets off giving out-of-towners some "fond memories," so-to-speak. His rule is to never date the locals. Until he meets Barrymore's character and gets a nip from the love bug. (No, Herbie's not in this one, thank God...)

Comedic complications ensue, as he quickly realizes he's just not that memorable to her. Granted, *nobody* is. His mission in life becomes to make hers better and move it forward. But how can he when any inroads he makes are erased the next day?

It's a cute little romantic comedy you may just want to come back to from time to time. I'd certainly recommend giving it a go, if you like romantic comedies, Sandler and/or Barrymore.
