From a script from first-time scribe James Gibson comes this filmed adaptation of ex-gangster Donald Goines' 1974 novel -Never Die Alone. Directed by Ernest R. Dickerson (Juice, Bones), the films stars David Arquette as Paul Pawlowski, a reporter who takes an interest in gang kingpin King David, played by rapper/actor DMX. When King David is killed, Pawlowski happens upon the criminal's journal and envelops himself in his story. From there, the rise and fall of King David is covered in flashbacks as Pawlowski makes his way through the diary. Aisha Tyler and Jennifer Sky co-star. ~ Matthew Tobey, All Movie Guide

Hip-hop star DMX stars in this edgy urban drama, which gets its share of extras for this DVD edition. Never Die Alone has been given two transfers to disc for this release -- a letterboxed version in the widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1 (and enhanced for anamorphic playback on 16 x 9 monitors) and a pan-and-scan full-screen version at 1.33:1. The original English-language audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital 5.1, while a dubbed track in Spanish appears in Dolby Digital Surround. Optional subtitles in English, French, and Spanish are also included. Bonus materials include a commentary track featuring DMX and director Ernest Dickerson, a collection of deleted scenes with commentary from Dickerson, and a short documentary on the making of the movie. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
