DVD Synopsis

Starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson in the title roles, this kitschy tongue-in cheek action comedy is based on the popular 1970s cop show of the same name. Ken "Hutch" Hutchinson (Wilson) and Dave Starsky (Stiller) are a tough pair of plain-clothes cops who drive a red and white Ford Torino and solve cases with the assistance of their informant, Huggy Bear (Snoop Dogg). While investigating their latest case, the duo realize that the culprit is none other than Reese Feldman (Vince Vaughn), the criminal involved in their first bust. Starsky & Hutch also features appearance by Juliette Lewis, Will Ferrell, and Matt Walsh, who, along with Snoop Dogg and Vaughn, all had roles in director Todd Phillips' last film, Old School. ~ Matthew Tobey, All Movie Guide

Editorial Review of DVD

Todd Phillips brings television cops Starsky and Hutch to the big screen with this affectionate action comedy that stars Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson as the title duo. The film debuts on DVD with a standard full-frame transfer that fails to preserve the movie's original theatrical aspect ratio. The seventies-style clothing comes across just as vividly at home as it did on the big screen. English and French soundtracks are both available, while English, French, and Spanish subtitles can be accessed. Supplemental materials include a commentary track by the director. Phillips spends the majority of the track discussing how great his actors are and revealing many of the obscure references to the old series made during the course of the film. A short featurette with Snoop Dogg about the costumes he wore in the movie, a blooper reel, the original theatrical trailer, and a very funny mock featurette on the making of the film (in which all the interviewees pretend that they hated working together) round out this release from Warner Bros. This disc is fine for what it is. The same extras are available on a different DVD version that boasts a widescreen transfer of the film; that version is preferable to this one. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide

All the movies that Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller made together are hillarious. This one included. It's like, the sum is greater than the parts. When these two work separate, not so good. When they work together, kick ass. Except for that Night in the Museum. What was up with that?
