DVD Synopsis

Jane Austen might never have imagined that her 1816 novel -Emma could be turned into a fresh and satirical look at ultra-rich teenagers in a Beverly Hills high school. Cher (Alicia Silverstone) and Dionne (Stacey Dash), both named after "great singers of the past that now do infomercials," are pampered upper-class girls who care less about getting good grades than wearing the right clothes and being as popular as possible. But Cher, who lives with her tough yet warm-hearted lawyer dad (Dan Hedaya) and hunky, sensitive stepbrother (Paul Rudd), also has an innate urge to help those less fortunate -- like the two introverted teachers she brings together ("negotiating" herself improved grades in the process) and new friend Tai (Brittany Murphy), who starts out a geek and ends up a Cher prodigy. Cher also possesses her own sensitive side, and she is looking for the perfect boyfriend, whom she ends up finding where she least expected. ~ Don Kaye, All Movie Guide

Editorial Review of DVD

Amy Heckerling's witty update of -Emma, Clueless, comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. Closed-captioned English soundtracks are rendered in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround, while a French soundtrack has also been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. English subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials are limited to a pair of theatrical trailers. While the picture and sound quality on the disc are both excellent, Paramount would have been smart to lavish a few more extras on this film that has a strong and vocal fan base. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide

This is one of my favorite comedies of all time. Great cast and surprisingly intelligent premise. Super fun, very funny movie! The acting is great! This is Alicia Silverstone's best role by far. The colors and sets are gorgeous and the satire is thick. The score is wonderful too.

I've seen it dozens of times and will see it many more times yet.
