Editorial Review of DVD

Twentieth Century Fox has wisely released Snow White and the Three Stooges (1961) as a double-sided disc, with the CinemaScope movie shown cropped, in full-screen (1.33-to-1) on one side, and letterboxed (2.35-to-1), on the other. Kids will probably want to watch the full-screen side, while adult fans will appreciate the letterboxed side. Beyond being shot in 'Scope, the movie features some fairly elaborate choreography on ice for skater Carol Heiss, playing Snow White, which are impossible to watch when cropped. Otherwise, the movie looks great, with deep, rich hues and lush sound. It has been given a very generous 24 chapters, covering all of the plot points and musical numbers. The menu is easy to use and opens automatically on start-up. The only real bonus feature is the original trailer. As for the Stooges, they're long of tooth but fun in this setting, and look like they're having the time of their lives on a movie that cost at least 20 times what their most expensive short film at Columbia cost. Director Walter Lang does make use of the widescreen frame for some of the comedy as well. ~ Bruce Eder, All Movie Guide

This was a realy unusual Three Stooges - more drama than comedy.
