DVD Synopsis

Daredevil's main squeeze gets resurrected in her own flick with this spin-off martial arts actioner from director Rob Bowman (Reign of Fire, The X-Files: Fight the Future). Jennifer Garner returns to the role of Elektra Natchios, a hired assassin whose origins are finally revealed after her old ninja clan the Hand brings her back from the dead to serve their evil purposes. Reunited with her old sensei, Stick (Terence Stamp), Elektra leaves the past behind her and is eventually given an assignment to kill Mark Miller (Goran Visnjic) and his daughter, Abby (Kristin Prout). When her conscience gets the best of her and she decides to protect them instead, it's up to the Hand's top assassins to track her down and finish the job. Fans of Marvel Comics might recognize Natassia Malthe as Typhoid Mary, another nemesis of Daredevil that joins in the hunt, along with other masters of the dark mystic arts, Tattoo (Chris Ackerman), Stone (Bob Sapp), and the Hand's fearsome leader, Kirigi (Will Yun Lee). ~ Jeremy Wheeler, All Movie Guide

Editorial Review of DVD

Less than three months after its theatrical debut, Elektra flies to DVD in this widescreen edition from 20th Century Fox. Also available in a pan-and-scan edition, the film comes with an anamorphic 2.35:1 widescreen transfer and a 5.1 Dolby Surround track, both clear and dynamic, with a sharp picture and a loud, booming soundtrack. Since the film virtually died at the box office, it's not surprising that the disc is packed with extras that are virtually carried straight over from most of the promotion found on the Internet before its release. There's a 12-minute making-of along with a slew of "Inside the Editing Room" featurettes with director Rob Bowman explaining the editing process of some of the more complicated sequences. Add in an appearance by Jennifer Garner at a comic convention, plus the teaser and theatrical trailer, and you basically have footage that you might have seen before somewhere else. Probably the biggest hyped extra comes in the form of the deleted Ben Affleck scene in which Matt Murdock visits Elektra in a dream sequence and tells her that he'll always be there to wait for her, though it remains to be seen if the fans will after this movie. Missing is Marvel's usual featurette on the comic character, though one shouldn't be surprised considering the multiple obnoxious tie-ins from The Family Guy and American Dad TV series along with a cheesy commercial for the Elektra soundtrack packing the rest of the disc. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, All Movie Guide

One person told me HE thought this was the best role Jennifer Garner ever played. I guess that makes sense seeing as most men dont like Chick Flicks. But over all it was like watching alias, with some secrets and some twists. Worth watching more than once.
