DVD Synopsis

A gal who needs a date for a family function gets the best man money can buy in this romantic comedy. Kat Ellis (Debra Messing) is a woman in her mid-thirties living in New York City and has had more than her share of romantic problems -- enough so that she's gotten word that her younger half-sister Amy (Amy Adams) is getting married, and that her mother Bunny (Holland Taylor) and father Victor (Peter Egan) want to fix her up with someone so she won't look alone and miserable for the big day. Adding insult to injury, Kat learns that the best man at the ceremony will be Jeffrey (Jeremy Sheffield), a former boyfriend who cruelly dumped her without warning two years before. Determined not to show up alone, Kat swallows her pride and hires Nick Mercer (Dermot Mulroney), a professional escort, who will pose as her boyfriend for a $6,000 fee. Kat and Nick fly to England for the wedding, and her family and friends are all struck by how charming, handsome, and personable Nick is -- and Kat begins wondering if their relationship has to be all business; however, as it turns out, Nick understands Kat far better than she expects. A cute date film. Dermot Mulroney has a lot of WOW factor in this one -- easy on the eyes, and he doesnt mind showing it off a little. His swagger and confidence are played to the hilt here.

Debra Messing, who has perfected the neurotic good girl in Will and Grace does more of the same here as the put-upon, under appreciated daughter of a quirky family, so don't expect any acting stretches for her here.

Cute ending, and good cast. A definite rainy day film.

This movie has a great soundtrack including Michael Buble and The Coors. It's a fun romantic comedy.

This is a very fun movie! Have watched it several times and have ordered the widescreen version too. I'm not known to be a big Debra Messing fan overall, but she was very good in this, not entirely like her Will and Grace persona. The rest of the cast does not disappoint either: Dermot Mulroney is never hard to take with his dark good looks and deep sexy voice. Not an award winning actor, but who's counting? Amy Adams is great as the competitive, destructive, but contrite sister. The rest of the cast are super too. The English countryside is gorgeous, the glimpses into British life enticing. The camera work and mood are very compelling and the storyline is quite fun, well rounded and does not fizzle at the end. The music alone makes this movie worth seeing. All in all, I recommend it highly for a fun escapist, fairytale ending guaranteed kind of flick. Not necessarily just a chick flick in my husband's opinion, who also enjoys watching it.
