DVD Synopsis
In this romantic comedy, Chris O'Donnell plays Jimmie, the grandson of an eccentric millionaire. At the reading of his grandfather's will, Jimmie learns that he stands to inherit $100 million on his 30th birthday. There's only one stipulation: Jimmie has to be married to get the money. And he is going to turn 30 in 24 hours. Jimmie and his sweetheart (Renee Zellweger) have already been talking about marriage, but she thinks it's wrong to marry for the money. The Bachelor co-stars James Cromwell, Brooke Shields, and singer Mariah Carey in her acting debut. This story was filmed before in Buster Keaton's silent classic, Seven Chances. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
Gary Sinyor's remake of a Buster Keaton classic, The Bachelor comes to DVD with two different pictures. The widescreen anamorphic transfer preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and is preferable to the standard full-frame 1.33:1 image. English soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround. English subtitles are accessible, and both soundtracks are closed-captioned. Although this film failed to click with audiences, the disc has been loaded with some interesting extras in order to entice people who are reluctant to give the film a chance. Although the disc itself contains just the original theatrical trailer, the DVD-ROM material includes script-to-screen access, wedding resources, and updated cast and crew information. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide
