DVD Synopsis

A team of intrepid adventurers travels through the outer reaches of the galaxy, each week finding excitement and adventure on Galaxy Quest! Or at least that's the way it was in the mid-1970s, when brave if reckless Captain Peter Quincy Taggart, lovely Lieutenant Tawny Madison, and inscrutable alien Dr. Lazarus were the leaders of an interstellar law enforcement team on the TV series of that name. Twenty years later, the show is still in reruns, and Jason Nesmith (Tim Allen), Gwen DeMarco (Sigourney Weaver), and Alexander Dane (Alan Rickman) prop up their sagging careers by making appearances at sci-fi conventions, where they grudgingly shake hands and give autographs for the show's socially inept following. However, it turns out that nerdy sci-fi fans aren't the only ones watching: somewhere in another solar system, a group of alien rebels living under a regime of violence and repression have picked up broadcasts of Galaxy Quest, and they aren't aware that it's fiction. They travel to Earth and encounter the Galaxy Quest cast, who figure that they're just another bunch of guys who like to dress funny. However, they soon realize that they're being hired not for another autograph-signing session but for a real-life outer space rescue mission. Galaxy Quest was directed by Dean Parisot, who had a background in TV directing before his theatrical debut with the dark comedy Home Fries. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Editorial Review of DVD

A DreamWorks release, this anamorphic widescreen DVD has a Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound track and captioned subtitles. Viewers can even listen to a Thermian Language (the alien tongue in the film) audio track as they watch this entertaining movie. This DVD is crisp and full of detail and vivid color. The Dolby soundtrack is clear and of excellent quality, with good blending of bass and treble tones. Additional features include the original "On Location in Space" featurette, which includes scenes of how Stan Winston and his crew filmed some of the special effects, with commentary by the cast. Viewers will also find the usual original film trailers, deleted scenes, and cast and crew bios. Watch for the amusing rotating Rock Monster on the special features menu. Clicking it gives some additional info. The bonus features are as fun to watch as the film. ~ Sherril Steele-Carlin, All Movie Guide

Love this movie! Fun; especially for those of us who are old Trekkies!

This is a wonderful, clever spoof of Star Trek, actors and their egos and their fans. Very original idea executed in a very endearing way. Funny as all get-out! We have watched this movie many times and plan to do so some more. And neither one of us is really a big Tim Allen fan. But he was great in this. Loved Alan Rickman as the whiny primadonna "I was meant for fame" type of actor. Sigourney Weaver is wonderful in this. And we even liked Tony Shalhoub's character. Don't normally care much for him either as Monk. The chief Space Monster is super well designed. The Thermians are adorable and very funny too. Everything is like a fun out-of-this world picnic for the senses. Don't miss it!

For anyone who has ever seen atleast one Star Trek show or movie, right down to the cast hatred of William Shatner. Very funny, Tony Shalloub is great in his role although not mentioned much in reviews. Could Star Trek be our historical documents? What a interesting idea and great writing for this not to be missed comedy if you enjoy a good clean belly laugh under the name of Galaxy Quest after all some say we never went to the moon... : )

This movie is hilarious, especially for those of us who are a bit on the, um, geeky side. I also love the fact that you can watch the whole movie dubbed in "Thermian". Priceless.

This is a favorite of mine and my husbands, as we've been to the conventions and are fans of Star Trek! This was excellently cast and the writers did a brilliant job, too! We just love the spoofs, the comedy, and the fun we have laughing each time we watch this movie! It's terrific!
