In the tradition of
Armageddon and
Deep Impact is the
Ice-T/
Mario Van Peebles thriller
Judgment Day. Presented in anamorphic 1.85:1 widescreen, this transfer is very good for a low-budget title. All colors are natural with black levels especially solid. With no dirt, digital artifacting, or grain, Artisan should be proud of the work it has done on this print. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the soundtrack. Presented in Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround, this is a very unimpressive track considering the theme of the movie (a big, loud asteroid is hurling towards earth). While the front speakers are utilized, rear speakers hardly come into play during the noisier sequences.
Judgment Day easily would have benefited from a new Dolby Digital 5.1 remix. Also included on this disc is a Spanish Dolby 2.0 track.
Judgment Day features only a few supplemental features, including the usual trailer, cast and crew information, plus some pages of information on asteroids (a must-read for those planning on someday saving the earth from giant rocks shooting towards our home planet). =Judgment Day should please fans looking for mindless entertainment and a decent transfer, though extra features are few and far between. ~ Patrick Naugle, All Movie Guide
