While issued as part of the successful James Bond "special edition" DVD series, =The World Is Not Enough differs in many ways from its companions. The film features an impressive 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital Sound, although the powerful lower end of the audio tends to overtake the dialogue at times. Renowned British director and documentarian
Michael Apted provides keen insight into his approach to directing a big-budget action film on the first screen-specific commentary track, while production designer
Peter Lamont, second unit director
Vic Armstrong, and composer
David Arnold provide more historical context on the second track. Instead of forming a half-hour, all-encompassing featurette, the behind-the-scenes information is unwisely divided into two inferior featurettes. The first is "The Making of The World Is Not Enough," a shallow collection of interviews hosted by Entertainment Tonight's
Leanza Cornett. A second feature allows the viewer to watch mini-documentaries on each individual action sequence, including the opening credit sequence, during the course of the film. While the latter provides decent coverage of the stunt work in the film, the interview featurette suffers badly in comparison to the rest of the series' excellent "inside" featurettes. The innovative music video by
Garbage and a theatrical trailer are included as well. While =The World Is Not Enough remains an impressive DVD, the missed opportunities of the supplementary features leave something to be desired. ~ Oliver Thornton, All Movie Guide
