=The Mummy Ultimate Edition is a two-DVD set that -- like Universal's 1999 pedal-to-the-metal remake of the 1932
Boris Karloff classic -- is packed with so many special features that a viewer won't know where to look first. The film, about the resurrection of a vengeful priest from ancient Egypt, stars
Brendan Fraser and
Arnold Vosloo, among others. The first DVD contains a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen version of the movie in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. It also has three feature commentaries: one by director
Stephen Sommers and editor
Bob Ducsay; the second with actors
Oded Fehr,
Kevin J. O'Connor, and
Arnold Vosloo; and the third with
Brendan Fraser. The disc includes a "Building a Better Mummy" feature that explains how the modern mummy was constructed by Industrial Light and Magic, production and cast/filmmaker notes, and an introduction to ancient Egypt called "Egyptology 101." Disc two contains a full-frame 1.33:1 version of the film also in Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound, deleted scenes, an explanation of several of the film's special effects sequences, a storyboard to final film comparison of several scenes, a photography montage, a brief explanation of Egyptian Pharaoh lineage, and some highlights of
The Mummy Returns sequel. Both discs also contain special DVD-ROM features. ~ Russell Roberts, All Movie Guide
